About Marc

Marc René Gardeya is founder and CEO of Hoppala Agency, Germany. He built and operates Hoppala Augmentation, the world's largest developer community and content creation tool for geobased AR, and he received international recognition for rebuilding the Berlin Wall in AR on a consumer mobile device. He built AR experiences for several international campaigns, large scale tourism applications as well as non-profit educational projects. Marc is developing core technology in the field of mobile augmented reality and computer vision. He built the real time SLAM 3D optical tracker and the foundations of the monocular 3D reconstruction system on an iPad2 for Dekko Inc., San Francisco. He is an international speaker, mentor and trainer. Marc has a Masters degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and has been working in the field of software engineering for more than 10 years.

Mentoring Workshop at DMMK / Create10

This year I joined Germanys multimedia congress DMMK and international conference for creative industries Create10 in Stuttgart. I had the great honor to add to the expert team of the “Visual experience” and the “Mobile experience” workshops. Create10 is succeeding the Creativity World Forum 2009, and together with the DMMK two days conference it is one of the major digital media conferences in Germany. Augmented Reality & TV – On stage with Dale Herigstad at ARWorld

It was a great honor to speak with Dale Herigstad at Germany’s augmented reality event ARWorld in Düsseldorf last monday. Dale Herigstad is chief creative office at digital media agency Schematic, he’s an internationally recognized thought leader on the future of media consumption in an interactive and many-screen world of increasingly rich media interfaces and was part of the research team that developed the visionary gestural interfaces that first appeared in the movie “Minority Report”. Speaking at Voice+IP Frankfurt

This tuesday I talked about business opportunities in mobile augmented reality at the Voice+IP conference in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. With approximately 1.500 participants the Voice+IP conference is the most influential IT, TK and mobile-communication summit in Germany. More Stuttgart Region Clusters

The Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS) published two more mobile augmented reality applications for regional industry cluster visualization today and proved professional usecases in mobile ar once again. Inspired by the great success of a very early Layar project back in summer 2009, the WRS decided to add creative industry and industry real estate data to the existing IT business information. With three mobile ar applications for Layar the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation is one of the very early adopters of mobile ar in the professional business. Read more…

Keynote at MobileTechConference 2010

I had the great honor to give one of the three keynotes at this year’s MobileTechConferencebesides Microsoft and Google. The subject of my talk was “Augmented Reality – From Science Fiction to Mass Medium”. It covered the current state of Mobile AR, sketched out the different pieces of technology that will make their way into the industry and pointed out how they will possibly play together very soon. Besides all the fancy tech we talked about the business side of Mobile Augmented Reality and shed some light on what is driving the different players in the industry and their business cases. Teaching at Good School Hamburg

It was a great honor to give a lecture on AR at the two-day creative workshop about innovative communication technologies at the Good School for marketing and communication in Hamburg on Sept, 4th and 5th. The workshop explicitly addressed senior level strategists at media agencies and marketing departments. I basically contributed an overview about Mobile Augmented Reality and why and how AR is becoming an emerging mass medium of the mobile age.
